Time and again I have seen people complain about they get off track after being consistent for a while, and then they just lose focus entirely to pursue that goal. If that happens to you quite frequently then this post is for you.
Here is my story, I tried to commit to wake up at 5 AM every morning including weekends for next 30 days, first 15 days I was hitting my goal consistently but then due to any unavoidable circumstances e.g. late night get together with family & friends, sick kids, late night work for few days to meet deadline etc., I used to get off track, and it was but natural I wasn’t able to wake up 5 AM the next morning. Even if I miss one day then I used to get quite upset over myself, negative thinking start crawling in to tell me that I am a looser :(. Side effects of this is normally observed in every sphere of life be its work, home chores, work out etc. Time and again I tried to stay consistent to wake up at 5 AM but things were falling apart one way or other. If you are single then you can still manage to pull it off, but for parents with young kids it gets difficult.
Then you channel your energy to Google to find one post that details around how to wake up at 5 AM if you go to bed at let’s say 2 or 3 AM, that basically means 2-3 hours of sleep. You can still wake up with some inertia that you have generated in the past few days but your day will be piece of cake, you know what I mean :). First of all you won’t get direct answer to your question, some might say try Poly Phasic sleep or so but don’t miss 5 AM. Trust me I have been there tried that and it doesn’t work, it’s as simple as that. You might pull it up for few days but sleep gravity will definitely pull you back.
If you are in the similar situation then there are few things that have worked for me really well, and I have been very consistent to wake up at 4:55 AM every morning.
Let’s assume due to any unavoidable circumstances you weren’t able to wake up at 5 AM, then first of all take it easy & remember you are human bound to make mistakes. Next thing focus on recovering back to your 5 AM the next day than ranting/cursing yourself how I missed waking up at 5 AM. If any negativity comes to your mind, anticipate it and thank it and remind that negativity that I am sorry but I am working on getting back to my routine. This will help if you get hit by negativity a lot at times. Trust me this will help you a lot.
CAUTION: Don’t waste countless hours to repent/lose focus/curse yourself, you are doing more harm than any good to yourself.
Secondly, start tracking your sleep hours every day. I have seen huge benefits of this, it shows me the pattern of my sleep, how many hours I am sleeping each night or so. Why you need to do that? It’s simple, if you can’t track it you can’t improve it, so start tracking your sleep. Also, don’t use your phone or any gadget to track it, use a diary and a pen, this is another trick. Below is my sleep tracking:
Thirdly, affirmation plays a vital role to channel your energy towards your goal. How to do this & Why? When you are in bed about to sleep, then say this 10 times “I AM WAKING UP AT 5 AM EVERY MORNING”, then go to sleep. When you are very close to sleep state then you are in that mode of vibrations where you can feed data to your sub conscious brain, when your affirmations go to subconscious brain then during your sleep it will marinate your subconscious for 6-8 hours of sleep. Remember, whatever goes to subconscious part of your brain becomes permanent. I hope you can connect the dots now :). Let me know if you need more info on brain vibrations/subconscious brain etc., I can spin another blog on this as this is a deep topic can’t be combined here.
That’s pretty much, and you can use the same approach to achieve any goal in your life.
Remember to Forgive/Track/Affirm
