Waterloo Region’s outdoor water-use bylaw

The region’s water conservation bylaw is in effect every year from May 31 , 2021 to Sept. 30, 2021.

Homeowners can water their lawn once a week. It must be done on the home’s assigned day from 5:30 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 11 p.m.

Addresses ending with:

  • 0 or 1 water lawns on Mondays
  • 2 or 3 water lawns on Tuesdays
  • 4 or 5 water lawns on Wednesdays
  • 6 or 7 water lawns on Thursdays
  • 8 or 9 water lawns on Fridays.

For other outdoor activities, watering can be done every other day between 5:30 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 11 p.m.

The last digit of an address determines the watering days for other outdoor activities:

  • Odd-numbered addresses can water on odd-numbered days
  • Even-numbered addresses water on even-numbered days.

Other outdoor watering activities include watering gardens, trees, shrubs and other outdoor plants, washing vehicles with a controlled hose or shut-off valve, and topping up pools.
